Client: Municipality of Kostrena
Problem: Wild animals migrating into settlements
Goal: Detect the movement of wild animals outside of hunting areas
Result: 62 night flights across a period of 6 nights in a total of 8 zones, total area of ca 150ha
Equipment: Drones, thermal imaging cameras, ROV

We recorded undeveloped parts of the municipality of Kostrena located outside of hunting areas, which are assumed to be inhabited by wild animals who then migrate into settled areas. A total of 62 night-time drone flights were undertaken at a height of 70 to 100 metres. In this case, detecting wild boar by thermal imaging was the priority.

The municipality of Kostrena is having increasing problems with wild animals in settled areas, especially wild boar, who are also found on coastal paths. In order to plan animal treatment and control strategies, aerial imaging was a necessary step in determining the wild boar population and the exact location in which they live, as well as other animals such as deer.

The survey identified the exact location of animal populations, differences in their behaviour caused by the sound of the drones, and the paths of their migration.
