“Drone Hero Europe 2017” is one of the first international awards for innovation that the company received.
The award was given as part of the largest European business and technology conference on unmanned aerial vehicles.
Vectrino won the award for innovative method of controlling and combating mosquitoes with the use of drones.
The concept was designed for the Croatian company “Dezinskecija” and the jury recognized Vectrino as a “carrier of change on a global level.”
Thanks to this concept, which meets the real needs of society, a significant contribution to the prevention of deadly diseases carried by mosquitoes is possible.
In recent year, mosquitoes have been posing an increasing health risk as their vector potential is rising and the number of mosquito-borne diseases is increasing.
Legal regulations thus regulate their systematic control.
Conventional mosquito control methods have had numerous shortcomings, such as the
- non-selective use of insecticides,
- the influence of vegetation and weather conditions on outcomes,
- the inability to treat inaccessible areas, etc.
The method uses NIR cameras and software that can detect water surfaces and automatically release the exact amount of larvicide needed to control mosquitoes.
This approach is considered to be more economically profitable and environmentally acceptable compared to conventional methods, as smaller amounts of larvicides are used in a precise manner.
Vectrino also developed a prototype drone accessory using a 3D printer to release tablets with larvicide.
This project was rated the best in the startup category.
